Terms and Conditions

Last updated October 3, 2026.

01Agreement

These terms apply when you visit cot.run, download or run the cot software, or use any service we offer around it. By doing any of those things you agree to them. If you use cot on behalf of a company, you agree on its behalf and confirm you are allowed to.

02The cot software and its licence

cot is open source. The collector, dashboard, hooks and bridge are licensed under the GNU Affero General Public License v3.0 (AGPL-3.0), published with the source on GitHub. Your rights to use, change and share the software come from that licence. Where these terms and the AGPL-3.0 disagree about the software, the licence wins.

cot is self-hosted. When you install it, it runs on your machine or your infrastructure, and you are responsible for running, securing and backing up that installation.

03Your data

Traces recorded by a self-hosted collector, including prompts, responses, shell commands, file paths and tool calls, are stored locally (by default in ~/.cot/cot.db) and are not sent to us. You own that data and decide what happens to it.

Separately, the collector can send aggregate usage metrics to cot.run: counts such as sessions and events, the installation timestamp and runtime information. These metrics never include prompts, responses, file paths or commands. They are on by default and can be turned off in Settings → Usage metrics or by setting COT_DISABLE_TELEMETRY=1. The FAQ describes exactly what is sent.

04Using cot.run

When you send a message, request a demo or subscribe to release emails, we store what you submit (such as your email address and message) with the country and browser details of the request, so we can reply and keep spam out. Forms are protected by Cloudflare Turnstile.

We measure visits to the website with Google Analytics and Umami to understand which pages are useful. You can unsubscribe from release emails at any time by replying to one of them or contacting us.

Please do not misuse the website: no attempts to break, overload or probe it, no automated form submissions, and nothing unlawful, abusive or infringing in what you send us.

05Enterprise and paid services

Enterprise features, managed collectors and support are provided under a separate written agreement. Where that agreement and these terms disagree, the agreement wins.

06Third-party tools

cot observes agents and tools made by other companies, such as Claude Code, Cursor and Codex, and runs on software such as Docker. Your use of those products is governed by their own terms. We are not responsible for them, and naming them does not mean they endorse cot.

07Name and brand

The open-source licence covers the code, not the cot name, logo or website design. Please do not use them in a way that suggests we made or endorse something we did not.

08No warranty

cot and cot.run are provided “as is” and “as available”, without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose and non-infringement. Insights findings are automated signals to help you review agent activity; they are not a guarantee that a session is safe or that every risk has been found.

09Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent the law allows, we are not liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages, or for lost data, profits or revenue, arising from your use of cot or cot.run. Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot be limited by law.

10Changes to these terms

We may update these terms as cot changes. The date at the top shows when they last changed, and continuing to use cot or cot.run after a change means you accept the new version.
